The Meaning of White Lightsaber

The white lightsaber symbolizes purity of thought, emotion and action; it represents the balance between good and evil.

You can call it "The Middle Way".

It is believed that those who wield this weapon have embraced both sides of the Force but are not bound to either. This type of character typically follows their moral compass instead of any particular set of rules, making them unpredictable and difficult to control.

A certain power is associated with the white lightsaber, as it represents a balance between the light and dark sides of the Force. Those who wield this weapon are often seen as powerful individuals capable of achieving great feats in physical combat and mental prowess.

The color also symbolizes peace, hope and a sense of security, as it is typically associated with the light side of the Force.

How Is a White Lightsaber Made?

We all know that a white lightsaber is one of the most special lightsabers in the universe.

But why?

Building the lightsaber is not that difficult. The key is the blade color. Normal colors like blue and green can be found in the universe. They all exist naturally.

But there is no white Kyber crystal.

When a Sith beats a Jedi and takes his crystal, it may be bent to their will and finally "bleed". And to build a white crystal, one, mostly a light side Jedi, need to use his Force to purify the crystal.

And finally, the healed crystal will emit white, and a white lightsaber appears.

Let's take Ashoka Tano's creating her lightsaber as an example.

According to Star Wars: Ashoka Tano's novel, when she was in Raada, she came across an Inquisitor named the 6th Brother.

She finally defeated the Inquisitor and got his crystal. She purified the crystal to white and built her dual lightsabers.

Ahsoka's First Lightsabers

Ahsoka's first lightsabers were given to her by Anakin Skywalker when she was starting as his apprentice. They were simple green blades with no bells or whistles. However, they served her well in her early days of training.

Anakin saw potential in Ahsoka and wanted to help her reach her full potential. So, he took it upon himself to improve her lightsabers. He added extra controls and buttons so she could better control them in combat. These modifications made Ahsoka's lightsabers more powerful and deadly.

Ahsoka's Blue Lightsabers During the Clone Wars

Anakin updated Ahsoka's lightsaber to a blue one.

Eventually, Ahsoka's path crossed with Darth Maul's once again. The two fought an epic duel that ended with Maul being severely injured and Ahsoka being forced to leave her blue lightsabers behind. This defeat weighed heavily on Ahsoka and led her to believe she was no longer fit to be a Jedi.

Ahsoka's White Lightsabers After the Clone Wars

After the Clone Wars ended, Ahsoka got two new Kyber crystals from a Sith blade. This story we have mentioned before.

While on her journey, Ahsoka found scrap parts that she used to build two new custom lightsabers containing white crystals. Initially, these white lightsabers appeared unpolished, but she eventually had them redone. The new lightsabers sported a more functional and elegant curved design with additional ornamental elements.

Where to Find a White Lightsaber

The white lightsaber first appeared in the season one finale of Star Wars Rebels, with Ahsoka Tano revealed as Fulcrum, a Rebel informant.

Behind the Scenes

The first Star Wars movie's lightsabers were supposed to emit white blades.

The original concept art for the first film showed characters with white blades, but George Lucas decided that Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker would wield blue sabers and Darth Vader's saber would be red.

Dave Filoni, co-creator of the animated series Star Wars Rebels, explains that Ahsoka's lightsaber blades are white to indicate her neutral status. According to Filoni in Rebels Recon #1.14, "Ahsoka's blades are white because she's not a Jedi and she's not evil."
